中国は5月23日“分離主義者に対する強い警告”をするためと称し、台湾周辺で２日間にわたる大規模な軍事演習を実施した。演習は台湾周辺の5箇所の海空域と中国本土に近い台湾が領有する４ヶ所の島嶼周辺で行われた。5月20日の頼清徳氏の台湾新総統就任演説で、「台湾は中国に従属するつもりはない、共存発展を目指すべき間柄だ」と述べたことに対する懲罰の意を込めた軍事演習、としている。

英海軍では、ドローンやミサイルの脅威が高まるのを受けて、対処策として2027年までにレーザー兵器「ドラゴン・ファイヤー(DragonFire)」を艦艇に装備開始することを明らかにした。

陸上自衛隊の多用途ヘリコプター「UH60JA」が昨年4月に沖縄県の宮古島沖で墜落した事故について、陸自の航空事故調査委員会が3月14日、調査結果を公表した。それによると、右と左にあるエンジンの出力が相次いで低下して墜落したことは解明されたが、エンジン出力低下の原因は特定できなかった。
2基のエンジンが搭載されたUH60JAは、1つのエンジンが故障しても、もう片方のエンジンで安全に飛行できるシステムになっている。しかし、2つのエンジンとも出力が落ち、安全飛行のシステムが役に立たなかった。なぜ、システムが機能しなかったのだろうか。
防衛省は2027年度完成目標に長距離・長時間運用できる水中無人機 (UUV=Under water Unmanned Vehicle)を開発中である。これは遠方から発進し、有人艦の伴走なしに自律航行ができるUUV。UUVに「海洋状況把握モジュール」あるいは「重量物敷設モジュール」を組込み、友軍の作戦を支援し敵艦隊侵攻を防ぐのが目的。
