ルービン天文台は米国科学財団(NSF)とエネルギー省科学局(DOE)が協力して南米チリのセロ・パチョン山に建設した天文台で、暗黒物質の存在を初めて確認した天文学者ベラ・ルービンの名前を取っている。この天文台は、ミラーの設計、カメラの精度、撮影に要する時間、計算速度、いずれをとっても従来の性能を遥かに超えている。(NSF-DOE Vera C Rubin Observatoy, jointly funded by NSF and DOE is a brand new astronomy on Cero-Pachon.
