JAXAのX線分光撮像衛星ミッション[XRISM=X-Ray Imaging and Spectroscopy Mission]は、X線を放射する天体を調べるミッションで、NASAおよびESA(欧州宇宙機構)が協力している。天文学の分野では、宇宙の巨大な構造はどうして形成されたのか？、巨大な重力がどんな影響を及ぼしているのか？、高エネルギー粒子のジェットはどんな働きをするのか？、など多くの疑問があるが、[XRISM(クリズム)]ミッションでこれらの解明を進める。
(NASA and ESA are working together with JAXA on the XRISM mission to study celestial objects emitting X-ray. The mission will study big cosmic questions like the largest structures came to be, what happens to matter under extreme gravitational force, and how high-energy particle jets work.)

リフテイング・ボデイは、長い間宇宙基地との往復に最適な形状だと考えられてきたが、シエラ・スペースが作る「ドリーム・チェイサー」宇宙機で今年初めて実証する。「ドリーム・チェイサー」は、幅広の胴体と上半角の大きい主翼を備えるリフテイング・ボデイ。スペース・シャトルと同じようにロケットを噴射して飛行し、水平の姿勢で滑走路に着陸する。しかし「ドリーム・チェイサー」はずっと小型なので、多種類のロケットで打上げが可能、滑走路も8000 ft の長さで十分着陸できる。
( The lifting body concept, long considered a vehicle for routine access to orbital space-stations, will have a chance to prove by Sierra Space’s Dream Chaser launches in 2024. Its wide body and canted wings generates lift, the rocket vehicle is designed to land horizontally like the space shuttle. 本稿は木村良一氏の寄稿です。厚生労働省によると、全国約5000の定点医療機関から12月4日～10日の1週間に報告されたインフルエンザの感染者の数は、1医療機関あたり33.72人となり、警報レベルの30人を超えた。警報レベルを超えるのは、2019年の1月以来である。次の11日～17日の1週間は1医療機関あたり29.94人と警報レベルをわずかに下回ったが、本格的な流行はこれからである。

本稿は木村良一氏の寄稿です。この1年の感染症を振り返ってみると、新型コロナ以外のウイルス感染症が急速に広がったように思われる。理由として考えられるのが、免疫力の低下だ。私たちはウイルスや細菌などの病原体に感染することで免疫力を高めている。子供の場合はとくにその傾向が強い。しかし、新型コロナが始まってから感染予防が社会全体で徹底され、その結果として新型コロナだけではなく、ほかのウイルスや細菌にさらされる機会が減って免疫力が下ったのではないかとの指摘である。

NASAの「プシュケ (Psyche)」と名付けられた宇宙機が今年10月13日朝、ケネデイ宇宙センター (KSC=Kennedy Space Center)パッド39AからスペースX社のファルコン・ヘビー(Falcon Heavy)ロケットで打上げられた。この宇宙機は太陽系の火星と木星の間の小惑星帯にある金属で出来た奇妙は小惑星の探査に向かっている。2029年に接近、2年ほど滞在して調査する。

スペースXの次世代超大型ロケット「スターシップ＋スーパーヘビー」は、11月18日に第２回目の打上げ試験が行われ、宇宙空間まで上昇に成功したが、失敗に終わった。２段目の分離に成功した直後に１段目スーパーヘビーが爆発、そして分離した２段目スターシップも目標の高度に達する前に爆発して終わった。

(SpaceX’s next generation giant Superheavy rocket launched on its second test flight Nov. 18, a looks like to reach the giant vehicle to space for the first time, but it didn’t. Shortly after second stage separation, the massive Super Heavy exploded, and the Starship second stage also detonated before reaching its target altitude.)

B-21 レイダー(Raider)爆撃機はノースロップ・グラマン(Northrop Grumman)社が開発中のハイテク新型機で、旧式化した米空軍爆撃機を更新し、将来の米空軍のバックボーンとなる。B-21は、航続距離が長く、高い抗堪性を備え、通常および核弾頭付きミサイル各種を搭載、これで米国および同盟国に対する脅威を排除する。
(The B-21 Raider is a new high-tech stealth bomber being developed by Northrop Grumman, to replace the U.S. Ari force’s aging bomber fleet. Designed to be long-range, highly survivable and capable of carrying conventional and nuclear munitions, supporting national security and assuring nation’s allies.)
