NASA、“2050年就航目標の先進航空機概念研究”に資金拠出

2024年11月NASAは2050年に就航可能な「環境に適合した先進航空機構想(AACES=Advanced Aircraft Concepts for Environmental Sustainability)」に関して、業界および研究機関に対し先進航空機の概念、キーとなる技術、などに関する意見を求めた。NASAは応募の中から５つの組織を選び、総額1億1,500万ドルの基金を支出、研究の援助とした。
(On November 2024, NASA issues Advanced Aircraft Concepts for Environmental Sustainability (AACES) 2050 initiative to aircraft industry. The agency asked industry and academia to come up with studies aircraft concepts, key technologies needed to commercial aviation by 2050. NASA choose five firms and issued a total of $ 11.5 million worth. helping further studies.)

三菱RJ、メイブ・M-80リージョナル機開発に協力

三菱重工の子会社MHI RJは、オランダ・ドイツのベンチャー企業メイブ・エアロスペースが開発するリージョナル旅客機M 80プログラムに協力する。MHI RJはエンジニアリング、販売活動、等の分野でM 80計画を支援する。M 80は、P&WCが開発するハイブリッド電動ターボプロップを装備する。就航は2032年の予定。
(MHI RJ and Maeve Aerospace are teaming up for the development of Maeve’s M-80 regional aircraft. In a joint statement, the companies said the partnership will cover engineering and advisory services by MHI RJ. The M-80 will be hybrid-electric regional aircraft powered by PW&C’s newly developed hybrid- electric propulsion system. M 80 could enter service in 2032.)

アメリカン航空、ゼロアビア製・水素燃料動力機「ZA2000RJ」100機の購入覚書を交付

アメリカン航空は7月2日、クリーン航空機開発の先駆者「ゼロアビア」が作る水素電動エンジン付きリージョナル旅客機100機を購入するため、「ゼロアビア」に購入覚書(conditional purchase agreement)を交付した、と発表した。
(American Airlines announced July 2, 2024, it has entered into a conditional purchase agreement with clean aviation innovator ZeroAvia for 100 hydrogen -electric engines to power regional jet with zero emissions.)

プラズマ・スラスターの実現で、宇宙飛行の時間が大幅に短縮

米国の人気の科学フィクションTV番組「The Expanse (広大な宇宙)」で、太陽系の中を超高速で旅行するのに、光速の数分の一の超高速を出せる架空の推進装置「The Epstein Drive（エプスタイン・ドライブ）」を使うという話が出てくる。夢のような話で現実にはあり得ないが、プリンストン大学の最新の研究によると、理論的には「亜光速推進 (sublight propulsion)」、つまり光速の数分の一の超スピードを得る推進装置は将来実現し得る、と述べている。実現すればこれは「エプスタイン・ドライブ」ではなく、研究者の名前から「エブラヒミ・ドライブ (Ebrahimi Drive)」となるかも知れない。このエンジンは、太陽で起きている「コロナ質量放出 (CME=Coronal Mass Ejection)」の現象を「核融合炉 (Fusion Reactor)」を使って創り、推力を出そうと言うもの。(In The Expanse, spaceships use a fictional sublight propulsion “The Epstein Drive” to travel quickly through the Solar System at several fraction of light speed. We’re not nearly there yet, but we are getting closer with the announcement of a new theoretical sublight propulsion. It won’t be an Epstein drive, but it may come to be as the Ebrahimi Drive an engine inspired by fusion reactors and the power of Solar Coronal Mass Ejections.)

エアバス、燃料電池で飛ぶ将来型輸送機の構想を発表

エアバスが検討中の「ZEROe」/「ゼロ・エミッションe」型航空機の一つ、水素タンク・燃料電池・モーター・プロペラをまとめた「ポッド」方式、はそれぞれが独立した推進システムで、航空機の様式としては革新的なアイデアである。現在、この方式がどこまで大きく出来、どの範囲の旅客機に適用可能か、を検討している。(The “pod” configuration – one of the several being studied configurations as part of ongoing the ZEROe concept aircraft – features a series of stand-alone propulsion systems based on hydrogen fuel cell technology. Today, Airbus is studying to determine how scalable the “pod” configuration could be applied to larger aircraft.)
