スペースXは2月17日に、ケープカナベラル空軍基地第40号宇宙発射施設 から5回目となるスターリンク通信衛星を打上げた。打上げた衛星は60基、これで300基の衛星を軌道に乗せることに成功し、スペースXは世界最大の商用通信衛星運用会社となった。 (Starlink is a satellite constellation being constructed by SpaceX company to provide faster internet services. 電気自動車「テスラ(Tesla)」の開発でも名を知られる「スペースX(Space X)社」のイーロン・マスク(Elon Musk) 社長は、昨年9月の「ファルコン９ (Falcon 9)」の打上げ失敗を克服して、再びビジネスを再開した。今年1月14日(東部標準時)に、タレス・アレニア社とオービタルATK社が共同開発した次世代通信衛星「イリジウム (iridium) NEXT」を打上げ、低地球周回軌道(LEO)に乗せることに成功した。
