《教科書で教えたい近現代史(その1)》
本稿は鳥居徹夫氏による関係図書からの紹介である。昭和３５（1960）年頃に『快傑ハリマオ』というテレビ映画が放映され人気を博した。ハリマオはマレー語で「虎」を意味するという。このテレビ映画は、大東亜戦争の前後にマレー半島で日本軍に協力したマレーの虎、谷 豊(たに･ゆたか)をモデルにしたという。テレビの舞台はインドネシアになっていたが、史実はマレーである。
アジア地域の人々は、欧州諸国の植民地支配と、華僑の経済支配に苦しめられていた。ハリマオ＝谷豊は、敢然として反英活動に邁進する。谷豊は、日本軍に協力しアジアの解放に大きな功績を残した。そして3１歳でマラリアに倒れ、英霊として靖国神社に祀られた。
中国は5月23日“分離主義者に対する強い警告”をするためと称し、台湾周辺で２日間にわたる大規模な軍事演習を実施した。演習は台湾周辺の5箇所の海空域と中国本土に近い台湾が領有する４ヶ所の島嶼周辺で行われた。5月20日の頼清徳氏の台湾新総統就任演説で、「台湾は中国に従属するつもりはない、共存発展を目指すべき間柄だ」と述べたことに対する懲罰の意を込めた軍事演習、としている。

天文学発達の過程で天体望遠鏡は限りなく高い場所を求めて設置されてきた。地球上で最適の場所の一つは南米チリのアタカマ砂漠(Atacama Desert)、ここのセロ・チャナントール(Cerro Chajnantor)山頂に東京大学アタカマ天文台[TAO] (Tokyo Atacama Observatory)が開設された。

本稿は木村良一氏の寄稿です。小林製薬（大阪市）の紅麹成分を含むサプリメント（栄養補助食品）の健康被害が、大きな社会問題になっている。小林製薬のホームページによると、4月24日時点で死者は5人に上り、1500人近くが医療機関を受診している。問題のサプリは、審査がなく、届け出だけで効能をうたって販売できる「機能性表示食品」の制度を利用したものだった。
英海軍では、ドローンやミサイルの脅威が高まるのを受けて、対処策として2027年までにレーザー兵器「ドラゴン・ファイヤー(DragonFire)」を艦艇に装備開始することを明らかにした。
