中国は5月23日“分離主義者に対する強い警告”をするためと称し、台湾周辺で２日間にわたる大規模な軍事演習を実施した。演習は台湾周辺の5箇所の海空域と中国本土に近い台湾が領有する４ヶ所の島嶼周辺で行われた。5月20日の頼清徳氏の台湾新総統就任演説で、「台湾は中国に従属するつもりはない、共存発展を目指すべき間柄だ」と述べたことに対する懲罰の意を込めた軍事演習、としている。

防衛省は2027年度完成目標に長距離・長時間運用できる水中無人機 (UUV=Under water Unmanned Vehicle)を開発中である。これは遠方から発進し、有人艦の伴走なしに自律航行ができるUUV。UUVに「海洋状況把握モジュール」あるいは「重量物敷設モジュール」を組込み、友軍の作戦を支援し敵艦隊侵攻を防ぐのが目的。

オースタル社(Austal)のモーバイル造船所(Mobile, Alabama shipyard)は、米海軍の「遠征軍用高速輸送艦(EPF=Expeditionary Fast Transport ship)」の14隻目(EPF-14)を納入した。これは同型艦の最初のフライトII (Flight II)と呼ばれる型で、戦場で負傷した兵士の緊急手術が可能な設備を備えている。
