三菱重工とボーイングは”直接民間取引(DCS)方式で航空自衛隊が保有するF-15J戦闘機の大規模改修計画(JSI)を支援する契約を締結した。契約内容は、最初の2機の改修のために、ボーイングが図面、地上支援機材、技術仕様書、を用意する、2022年に開始して合計98機の改修を行う、というもの。(Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Boeing have signed a Direct Commercial Sales(DCS) agreement to Japan’s fleet of F-15J. Boeing will provide MHI with retrofit drawings, ground support equipment and technical publications for the upgrade of first two jet. And the upgrade will extend up to 98 aircraft beginning in 2022.)
本稿は木村良一氏の寄稿です。なぜ、日本をはじめとするアジアの国々では「コロナ感染」や「コロナ感染死」が少ないのだろうか。新型コロナウイルス感染症の最大の謎で、欧米からは次のような声が次々と上がっている。「日本は犠牲になりやすい高齢者が多い国にもかかわらず、欧米のような完璧な閉鎖ではなく、外出の自粛という国民任せの緩やかな対策で感染を抑え込んだ」「日本だけではなく、アジアの国々の感染は少ない」「とてもミステリアスだが、背景に何か要因があるはずだ」ノーベル生理学・医学賞を受賞した京大iPS細胞研究所長の山中伸弥教授も、ネットやテレビでその要因を「ファクターX」と呼んで「明らかにできれば、今後の対策にいかせる」と語る。
令和2年7月、我が国周辺における中露両軍の活動として、統合幕僚監部が発表したのは次の3件、関連して海上幕僚監部発表は3件、そして航空幕僚監部から2件あった。さらにロシア海軍情報局が2件、中国軍英文サイトから4件の発表があった。加えて中国海警局艦艇による沖縄県尖閣諸島周辺の領海、接続水域への侵犯は4月中旬以来１日も休むことなく7月末日まで108日間続いている。尖閣諸島侵犯問題については日本政府は中国側に厳重抗議しているが、無視され続けている。(According to the Japan’s Ministry of Defense, Russ & Chinese military movements around Japanese Islands have kept high and increasing. 2020年1月22日の第1回で紹介した様に、LiDARは、Light Detection and Ranging (光検出と測距)もしくはLaser Imaging Detection and Ranging (レーザー画像検出と測距)の略で、光を用いたリモートセンシング技術の一つである。今回は、自動車関連分野に関する応用で、自動運転のセンサーとしての欧米のLiDAR開発企業の紹介の二回目とする。数多くのスタートアップ企業が生まれて来ており、技術開発および価格の競争は厳しくなっている。次回は最終回として、日本およびアジアの企業の紹介をする予定である。
(As explained in the reports dated January 22 and April 11, LiDAR, the acronym of Light Detection and Ranging or Laser Imaging Detection and Ranging, is one of remote-sensing technologies applying optics. This report is the second issue of LiDAR vendors mainly in North America and Europe adopting their technologies to the autonomous driving. Many start-up companies are popping up the world over, and competing each other in terms of their technologies and costs. Japanese and Asian vendors are introduced in the next issue, which is the last one of the LiDAR series.)
英仏共同開発のコンコード(Concore)が退役して17年が経過、6年前に設立されたコロラド州のベンチャー企業の手で超音速旅客機「オーバーチュア(Overture/序曲)」の開発が始まった。その技術実証機となる戦闘機ほどの機体が間も無く完成する。(Seventeen years after retirement of the Anglo-French Concorde, a small size supersonic prototype aircraft is nearing completion by Boom Supersonic in Colorado, founded six years ago. It is a trial toward development of the civil supersonic airliner “Overture” of the 21st century.)
NASAは、フランス領ギアナから打上げるジェームス・ウエブ宇宙望遠鏡の打上げ予定日を2021年10月31日に変更する。これまで2020-03-31を予定していたが、武漢コロナ・ウイルス感染拡大と技術的課題のため延期されることになった（2020-07-17発表）。(NASA now is targeting Oct. 31, 2021, for the launch of the James Webb Space Telescope from French Guiana, due to impact from the coronavirus pandemic, as well as technical challenges. Previously, the Launch was targeted in March 31, 2021.)
