商船三井(Mitsui OSK)は、日本航空(JAL)、ロイド船級協会(Lloyd’s Register)およびレジェント・クラフト(REGENT)と共に、レジェントが開発する電動”地面効果翼機 (WIG)”「シーグライダー (Seaglider)」の日本での実用化に協力する事を決め、先に3社が締結した「機体の認証・運航許可の取得を共同で進めるための合意書」に参加、署名した。

レジェントが作るシーグライダーは、全く新しい海上交通手段で、飛行機のスピードと船の安い運航費を組み合わせた乗り物である。動力は電動モーターで排気ガスは出ない。現用の地上設備を使って旅客や貨物を乗せ、時速180マイル(290 km/hr)で180マイル離れた沿岸部の都市間を飛行する。
（REGENT seagliders are a new maritime vehicle, combine the speed of an airplane with the low operating cost of a boat. It is all electric zero-emission vehicle operated over water and existing coastal facilities to carry people and cargo up to 180 miles distance at speed of 180 miles/hr between coastal city.
