ルービン天文台は米国科学財団(NSF)とエネルギー省科学局(DOE)が協力して南米チリのセロ・パチョン山に建設した天文台で、暗黒物質の存在を初めて確認した天文学者ベラ・ルービンの名前を取っている。この天文台は、ミラーの設計、カメラの精度、撮影に要する時間、計算速度、いずれをとっても従来の性能を遥かに超えている。(NSF-DOE Vera C Rubin Observatoy, jointly funded by NSF and DOE is a brand new astronomy on Cero-Pachon. It’s named after astronomer Vera Rubin, who found first existence of dark matter. Rubin Observatory is the first of this kind, its mirror design, camera sennsitivity, teleskope speed, and computing system are entirey new category.)
